Most people can describe where they are - in life or in business - and many have a vision of their future. The ability to work the magic that turns dreams into tangible successes is less common. It is this rare talent and passion for strategic thinking that drives Len Deacon. With twenty years of experience in the healthcare sector, Len is currently consulting as innovative change agent and strategic consultant for the South African healthcare sector including some medical schemes and administrators in South Africa. He is a strategic partner of the Institute of Health Risk Managers (IHRM) in the Western Cape, and is a convenor of the Burden of Disease Conference, a meeting of international experts in chronic disease management, to be held in Johannesburg in 2009. His enthusiasm and energy to make change happen through effective innovation, coupled with his exceptional communication and interpersonal skills has led to a variety of leadership positions in Administration, Managed Care and Scheme Management. His career highlights include Divisional Manager responsible for marketing and new divisions for AMA; Principal Officer / Senior Manager for Schemes at Sanlam Health and Assistant General Manager and acting CEO for Bankmed. He sits on a myriad boards, most significantly the Board of Healthcare Funders and the International Disease Alliance, and is in demand as a guest speaker at local and international conferences on topics such as wellness and managed healthcare. His approach to both his life and his work can be summed up in two words: Passion and Principles. His passion is to bring new life into organisations and individuals; creating capacity in the South African healthcare market, both in the public and private sectors. He has extensive experience in systems thinking and scenario planning, and particularly enjoys coaching principal officers and CEO's, who benefit from his "value-added" approach. His principles come from his deep spiritual beliefs which are reflected in his personal credo: "We are created to love, to learn and to leave a legacy". He holds a B. Com (Honours) in Strategic Marketing from Unisa and a MPhil in Systems Thinking from UCT.
